Taking 1,000 milligrams of calcium supplement per day increased a man's risk of dying from heart disease by 20%, but did not have the same effect in women, according to an analysis in JAMA Internal Medicine. Calcium from diet, however, was not associated with an increased risk. The study followed more than 388,000 men and women age 50 to 71.
