Fewer Japanese visitors a concern for Hawaii tourism

Hawaiian tourism officials say they want to retain the business of Japanese tourists. About 1.37 million Japanese tourists visited Hawaii in 2006, which is 36% lower than the record of 2.15 million in 1997. Higher hotel room rates, fewer flights and fuel surcharges on flights are seen as reasons for the falling numbers.
