Researcher stumbles upon new way to fight tumors

A researcher searching for a way to reduce the inflammation seen in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis discovered the compound she was working with might be effective in fighting tumors. The researcher and her colleagues found the compound breaks down the cell walls of tumors and could allow doctors to fight cancer that has become resistant to chemotherapy. The scientists are conducting tests on the compound and hope it will be used to treat colon, esophageal, liver and skin cancers.
