Free, ad-driven music on social sites could offer new download model

Slow CD sales and the increasing popularity of social music sites Imeem and Last.fm, which boast 20 million users per month, have prompted the record industry to consider whether such ad-driven services will be the next big thing in music downloads. Some in the music industry also see the free services as a potential tool for converting users to a subscription model in exchange for enhanced services and no ads.
