NCLB reauthorization timetable remains uncertain

Key Democrats and Republicans in Congress may agree with President George W. Bush that NCLB needs to be renewed, but the administration's critical response to a bipartisan draft bill released for discussion last year ultimately contributed to the effort being stalled last fall, according to Rep. George Miller, D-Calif. Moreover, the White House's failure to propose budgets that fully fund the law has created a tense atmosphere, says Miller, who chairs the House's education committee.
