Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst has called on state Senate committees to study new property-tax limits, improved border security, dam safety and funding for highways and toll roads. Dewhurst wants the studies completed before the start of the 2009 session. "These charges focus on keeping Texans safe, improving our Texas economy while keeping taxes low, continuing to improve our public schools and universities, continuing to protect and improve our air quality and water resources, and building new highways," he said.
