Alaska's Yukon River features in-stream hydro power

Ruby, Alaska, became the first community in the nation with an in-stream hydrokinetic generator. The submersible turbine placed in the Yukon River is an example of in-stream hydro power. Although the 5-kilowatt Ruby generator only produces enough power for two homes, researchers hope to install a 100-kilowatt turbine later this year in Eagle, Alaska.
