Small exporters might get stung by buy-American policy

While a proposal in the Senate requiring the federal government to purchase goods from U.S. suppliers would benefit small businesses, some may also face a backlash in foreign markets where they have gained so much new business recently, says Todd McCracken, president of the National Small Business Association. "If you look at 2008, the one bright spot in the economy has been exporting," he said. Additionally, McCracken said the buy-American policy likely would help large businesses more than small ones.
