Alcatel releases radio module that spans 2G, 3G, 4G

In the software-defined radio sector, Alcatel-Lucent has completed a backward-compatible upgrade for GSM-UMTS base stations that will support 3GPP technologies running on networks from 2G to 4G, the vendor announced Thursday. Alcatel has reportedly aimed the MC-TRX module at carriers that want to deploy 3G UMTS along the 900MHz frequencies that, until recently, were limited to GSM services.
