ELL advocate groups seek funding block against Boston schools

A number of Latino groups are calling on federal education officials to withhold funding for Boston public schools until the schools improve services and educational opportunities for its English language learners. The district began an overhaul this year of its ELL programs after a review showed that the district was in danger of violating state and federal civil rights standards, but the groups say that funding should be withheld until the district is in compliance with all laws.
