Pentagon aviation plan calls for tripling long-endurance drones

The Pentagon's long-range aviation plan, delivered to Congress this week, calls for a tripling of the military's inventory of high-altitude, armed and unarmed long-endurance drones by 2020. The military currently has 220 of the unmanned aircraft, and the plan proposes 800. The long-endurance drones are capable of 24-hour patrols, offering ground commanders round-the-clock surveillance.
