New plan promises rebirth of Atlantic City, N.J.'s, tourism district

New Jersey officials are touting a recently approved redevelopment plan that includes reviving a desolate 1,700-acre swath of land within Atlantic City. The plan includes the construction of hotels and tourist attractions to restore the area to its former liveliness, with short-term plans of building public-use spaces such as farmers markets and ballparks, officials said. Business in the area died down after the closing of the Sands resort in 2006.
