Liberty Global will pay $16 billion for Virgin Media

U.K. pay-TV and Internet provider Virgin Media is being acquired by John Malone's Liberty Global for $16 billion. The deal, which is part of Liberty Global's push into European markets, could set up a bigger rivalry with British Sky Broadcasting, which is partly owned by News Corp. and is the U.K.'s top pay-TV provider.
