Shell beats BP to become top oil producer in Gulf

Royal Dutch Shell surpassed BP as the largest crude oil producer in the Gulf of Mexico. BP had held the top spot since 2008, according to data from the U.S. government, but asset sales and key maintenance work led to a decline in the company's production in 2012. "We are extremely proud of this oil-production milestone in our journey operating deepwater assets in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico," a Shell spokeswoman said.
