Study supports link between blood type and clot risk

People with the AB blood type face a 4% greater risk than people with blood type O of developing blood clots in the veins, according to a study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. People with Factor V Leiden and a clot-promoting prothrombin genetic mutation had clotting risks that were seven and 11 times greater, respectively, than for people without. Researchers said ABO blood typing should be part of all risk-screening protocols.
