CMS announces program to boost care access for rural patients

The CMS has partnered with the Health Resources and Services Administration's Federal Office of Rural Health Policy on an initiative that will increase rural residents' access to health care. The Frontier Community Health Integration Project aims to support critical access hospitals and help them improve the care they offer to Medicare beneficiaries by launching telehealth, ambulance and home health services. Hospitals are expected to use the program to reduce Medicare expenditures, boost services, enhance patient satisfaction and limit the number of patient transfers to larger providers.
