Physicians urged to talk to patients about pay policies

Physicians should make payment policies clear to patients and discuss out-of-pocket expenses in case some people get dropped from health plans for lagging behind in paying premiums, medical groups such as the American Medical Association advise. Physicians are concerned that the Affordable Care Act allows people who buy plans from health insurance exchanges to be three months behind in premiums before being dropped, because insurers will not process claims for those who are from 31 to 90 days behind.
