Promoting health care cost transparency may improve outcomes

The accountable care model has flaws such as a lack of patient engagement, conflicts of interests for providers and an underwhelming record of results so far, writes primary care physician Kenneth Croen. Promoting medical cost transparency and providing low-cost preventive care would give patients an incentive to help reduce health care costs and make healthy lifestyle choices, Croen writes.
