Opinion: Calif. Teachers Union Wrong To Seek Control Over Classroom Issues

The 200,000-member California Teachers Union is circulating legislation to broaden teachers' control over choosing curricula, textbooks and supplies. The CTA says teachers should have expanded bargaining rights if the state continues to hold them accountable for students' performance. Columnist Daniel Weintraub says giving the unions increased control could hinder the state's academic reform movement.
