Louisiana district allows emergency use of banned cell phones

Yesterday, the Jefferson Parish School Board voted 6-2 to allow students to use cell phones in emergencies without prior permission, even though they may possess such devices on campus only with the principal's approval. The board's attorney said the two policies were not contradictory, because the emergency use provision should be considered separately from the primary ban.
