Experts advise patients seeking online support groups

Online support groups can help patients cope with illness, but two experts say patients have to protect themselves against potential problems. Patients must not substitute online communities for a relationship with a doctor, must choose a site that allows for anonymity, should be aware of marketing and paid services, should look for groups that are moderated, and should consider the trustworthiness of sites, the experts say.
