New Mass. law gives nurse-midwives greater autonomy

Massachusetts nurse-midwives can write prescriptions and order tests or therapeutics for patients under a new state law. Nurse-midwives no longer are required to work as part of a team that includes a licensed physician but still must have a clinical relationship with obstetrician-gynecologists for consultations and referrals.
