Malone's Liberty Global reaches $16 billion deal to buy Virgin Media

John Malone's Liberty Global will become the largest broadband company outside of China after it acquires Britain's Virgin Media for $16 billion in cash and stock. Virgin is the second-largest cable company in the U.K. The deal will pit Liberty Global -- which will offer a triple-play bundle -- against Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB as well as BT.
