Content still rules the world, but how it's delivered will continue to evolve because of the DVR and emerging digital platforms, according to a panel of media executives at an industry event in West Hollywood, Calif. However, it's important to note that digital media and Hollywood have different business models, said FX Networks President John Landgraf. "Amazon and Google operate on low [profit] margins but are based on [high] volume," he said. "In Hollywood, we operate based more on margin than volume. If you have the sense we should get religion and just care about volume, you don't understand the content business."
