Technology brings dental care to schools, nursing homes

A demonstration project in California is providing dental care to low-income schoolchildren, elderly residents of long-term care facilities and people with disabilities. Dental hygienists and assistants collect dental images with portable equipment and upload them along with patient information to a website, allowing a dentist to evaluate the data and develop a treatment plan or refer patients to a local dentist.
