4.2-magnitude quake shakes central Calif. coast

An offshore 4.2-magnitude earthquake rattled the central California coast Thursday about 9 miles, or about 15 kilometers, southwest of San Simeon. The temblor struck at 11:42 a.m. Pacific Time, and residents reported mild shaking, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
