Rural Virginians to benefit from solar-powered Wi-Fi pilot

Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities and Gamewood Technologies -- a wireless Internet service provider -- will pilot a low-power, environmentally sustainable Wi-Fi network in Halifax, Va., under an agreement with Indian telecom Vihaan Networks. Vihaan's WorldGSM network -- which has been used in India and Kenya -- relies on base stations powered by solar photovoltaic panels to expand broadband access to rural communities.
