U.S. lawmakers reach bipartisan deal to repeal SGR formula

Physicians would get a 0.5% annual Medicare pay increase for five years under a bipartisan agreement worked out by Senate and House negotiators to repeal the sustainable growth rate formula. The deal, which must still be approved by both chambers, does not indicate how the repeal, estimated to cost from $120 billion to $150 billion, will be paid for, but the increases are aimed at stabilizing payments as physicians transition to new health care delivery models.
