Study: Whole grain diet can reduce diabetes risk

The consumption of a diet high in whole grains can reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes, according to a new study. Researchers who studied the diet records and blood samples of nearly 1,000 healthy middle-age adults found that those who consumed higher levels of whole grains had a lower risk of diabetes and heart disease, but they noted that the higher levels of whole grain intake also were associated with higher levels of physical activity, less smoking and lower alcohol consumption.
