Summit focuses on the effect of climate change on California

California must address the effects of climate change or face serious economic and insurance problems, said speakers at the recent San Francisco Public Utilities Commission's Water Utility Climate Change Summit 2007. Economic development may be influenced by insurers' decisions not to insure properties that flood or have the potential to flood, said Mary Nichols, director of the UCLA Institute of the Environment.
