Transportation secretary calls on private sector for road projects

Transportation Secretary Mary Peters is leading an effort to get the private sector more involved in road projects. The Highway Trust Fund, which is the prime federal source for roads, bridges and transit lines, is projected to show a $3.2 billion shortfall in its highway account for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, and Peters said she had "zero confidence" that sending more money to Washington would produce better results.
