Corps rejects ConocoPhillips' bid for exploration permit in Alaska

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' move to deny ConocoPhillips a permit to explore in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska has disappointed some state lawmakers. "That's a half a billion dollars of development lost," state Rep. Craig Johnson said. ConocoPhillips had sought approval to construct a bridge over the Colville River, but the Corps said the plan failed to comply with Clean Water Act rules.
