District limits teacher recruitment to science, math and special education

An Arizona school district will target its recruitment efforts on science, math and special-education teachers, the first forgoing of annual efforts to recruit teachers in other subjects. Demand for new K-12 teachers will depend on next year's enrollment, the number of returning teachers and state budget cuts, but district officials say it is more difficult to find science, math and special-education teachers -- particularly for the upper grades -- because they are required to earn specialized qualifications.
