Bills aim to open the door for horse-meat processing in Nebraska

Two bills awaiting debate in the Nebraska Legislature would establish a state meat-inspection agency and make it a misdemeanor for any humane society or horse rescue organization to turn away horses. The moves are the first steps toward re-establishing a horse-meat processing industry in the state, an issue that's become controversial across the country and led to bans in other states.
