Chimpanzees can understand others' needs, study finds

According to recent research in Japan, chimpanzees possess the capacity to understand the goals of another chimpanzee, an altruistic ability often displayed by humans and dubbed "theory of mind." "Chimpanzees as well as humans help others without any direct benefit for themselves, and their helping fits the others' needs," said researcher Shinya Yamamoto.
