Official: Fla. PIP must change to stem rising auto insurance costs

The increasing cost of auto insurance in Florida will continue if lawmakers fail to revamp the no-fault auto insurance system, Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty said. Auto insurance carriers in Florida will "continue to be aggressive" in seeking rate increases to cover for losses from personal-injury-protection fraud if lawmakers fail to change the system, McCarty said. Motorists in the state have lost more than $800 million because of fraudulent auto claims, according to a PCI report.
