Acupuncture activates sympathetic nervous system during pain

A Canadian study found acupuncture can act through the sympathetic nervous system in people experiencing pain, and the effect is systemically rather than locally mediated. Study participants who received acupuncture treatments had increased skin conductance, while those getting a sham treatment or no therapy did not, according to the report in the journal Acupuncture in Medicine.
