New lightweight assistive robots could be just what Australian small and medium-sized enterprises need to help revive the nation's manufacturing sector. This new generation of machines can be used in one of three broadly defined ways: as "intelligent tools" that function in coordination with human workers, to augment the abilities of human workers and as field tools to assist human workers in hazardous environments.
