Robots go soft with a worm

Soft robotics has taken a step forward, of sorts, with a worm. The device wriggles about mimicking the movements of an earthworm, resembling not so much a hard, metallic conventional robot as a living thing. The Meshworm -- developed by MIT, Harvard and Seoul National University researchers -- consists of a mesh tube wrapped in a special memory alloy wire that expands and contracts.
