General Growth Properties is beginning its foray into sustainability by gathering data on energy, waste and water reduction, said sustainability program manager Marti Smith. Going forward, the company will focus on energy conservation measures. "Now we're really defining what our energy use will be and we're actually starting to implement goals across our portfolio at each of our centers," Smith noted. The scope of the project currently includes 40 properties with 2,000 data points to analyze energy consumption, and Smith said GGP hopes to expand the project to all its centers within the next two years.
