Lawmakers consider how to kick-start Fla. hospital project

Some lawmakers are considering taking away from the Department of Veterans Affairs control of the Orlando Veterans Affairs Hospital project, which has exceeded its budget by $100 million and missed its completion date. However, a plan to shift control of the project to the Army Corps of Engineers is ill-advised, said Rep. John Mica, R-Fla. "Why should we be giving this to a government agency when the private sector and some construction management firms can very well handle a project much larger than those VA hospitals," Mica said.
