N.C. community college implements new faculty promotion system

Wake Technical Community College in North Carolina is offering its instructors a path to become professors based on years of service and teaching performance. After three years of service, instructors can apply to become assistant professors, with the ability to move to associate professors at five years and full professors by seven years. Each rank also promises a 3% pay raise, capped at 6%. "Our goal here is to be able to recognize our faculty and the work they've done over time," President Stephen Scott said.
