Miami Teachers Reject Plan To Reduce Budget Deficit

United Teachers of Dade members yesterday voted down a proposal to save the district $13 million by forcing most employees to take two days off without pay. Union president Pat Tornillo, who had endorsed the plan, said the teachers "resent being asked to dig deeper into their own pockets to make up for budget problems for which they are not responsible."
