New Jersey, Maryland Leaders Call For Testing Changes

New Jersey education commissioner William L. Librera has proposed eliminating state tests in some subjects and turning the fourth-grade exam into a diagnostic tool rather than a measuring stick to compare schools. Separately, in Montgomery County, Md., the school board is calling on the state to suspend its elementary and middle school testing program until concerns about its reliability are resolved.
