Analysis: Asian banks aren't afraid of Basel III

While Western banks would face difficulty in implementing Basel III regulations, Asian banks are well-capitalized and do not fear the proposed rules, columnist Peter Stein writes. Asian banks got burned in the financial crisis of 1997 and 1998 and have been much more careful since, Stein notes. "The problems in Asia are obviously a lot less than in the Western world," said Simon Ho, a banking analyst at Citigroup Global Markets.
