Analysts: Failed reform could lead to health industry consolidation

Analysts predicted that a failure on health reform would force drugmakers, hospitals and other health care businesses to merge with their rivals to reduce costs. However, manufacturers of drugs, biotech products and medical devices could benefit from the absence of a broad overhaul, which included shorter exclusivity periods for biotech drugs and additional medical-device taxes.
