Bar codes help nurses reduce errors and track medications

MultiCare health system in the Tacoma, Wash., area has spent $140 million on health care technology, including a bar-code wristband system for patients. Scanning the wristbands allows nurses to bring up patient information on a portable computer, reducing errors by ensuring the correct medication and dosage is delivered.
