Gun seizures drop after Christmas Day terror incident

TSA gun seizures at the nation's airports fell for several weeks following the Christmas Day bombing attempt on a U.S. jetliner. "When an event takes place such as Christmas Day, it brings security checkpoints to people's minds, and they do a better job of checking their hand luggage before going through a checkpoint," says one security expert, adding that guns are almost always brought to the airport by mistake. Over time, however, security awareness will dissipate, "and the number of guns seized will go back to normal levels," he says.
