N.C. to upgrade passenger, freight tracks in Charlotte

North Carolina plans to spend $100 million of the half-billion it received in stimulus funds to improve freight and passenger rail tracks running through Charlotte. The investment will serve to straighten curved tracks, build double tracks and separate intersecting CSX and Norfolk Southern rails -- all with the goal of relieving congestion and speeding up service.
