U.S. military budget cuts could affect funding for satellite imagery programs, hurting key technologies that benefit not only the military but also the private sector, including a next-generation satellite platform that could provide images used in a variety of commercial applications, Nick Schulz writes. The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's EnhancedView program may face the ax even as the private sector finds new ways to employ geospatial imagery, including monitoring shipping routes, assessing the status of oil installations and determining the extent of natural disasters.
